Tamarma

Tamarma, the artistic identity of Tamara Davitashvili, is a Georgian composer, vocalist and electronic artist whose work moves between tradition and transformation.

She grew up near the Caucasus Mountains, in an environment where landscape, silence and sound are closely intertwined. Her early musical foundation is rooted in classical piano training, later expanding into jazz, where she developed a strong sense of phrasing, timing and emotional nuance as a vocalist. Alongside this, the influence of Georgian polyphonic singing, with its deep harmonic language and collective expression, has remained an underlying presence in her work.

Her transition into electronic music did not come from a desire to change direction, but from a need to expand her means of expression. Rather than leaving her background behind, she began to reinterpret it through new tools and processes. The result is a sound that feels both intimate and spatial, where voice, texture and atmosphere are closely connected.

A significant turning point came in 2020, when she joined Sebastian Mullaert’s In Bloom mentorship programme on a scholarship. What began as a period of exploration gradually developed into a long term creative process. Over time, her work revealed a distinct clarity and sensitivity, leading to a deeper engagement with composition, structure and form.

Her collaboration with Mullaert on Holds the Sky emerged organically from this process. What started as a single piece grew into a full length album, shaped through shared listening and an open exchange of ideas. Within this collaboration, Tamarma’s voice carries both a personal and cultural depth, while remaining fluid and responsive to the moment.

Her work does not seek to define itself within a genre. Instead, it moves through different states, sometimes minimal and introspective, sometimes more expansive, always grounded in a sense of presence.

Tamarma’s music reflects an ongoing process rather than a fixed identity. It is shaped by where she comes from, but equally by where she allows it to go.

She joins Awesome Soundwave in collaboration with Sebastian Mullaert to release a series of EPs and singles in the lead-up to their album ‘Hold the Sky’ in 2026.
